We aim to attract the very best talent to join the staff at Isleworth & Syon School. We offer a fantastic environment in which to work and a range of benefits to all of our colleagues.
Working with dynamic, innovative and supportive colleagues and in a school where student behaviour is described as “outstanding”.
A school ethos and culture which encourages and insists on students being polite and courteous.
A school that “dispels the myths” that might be associated with boys’ schools. Do come and experience how a well-run school can ensure that staff can get on with teaching and students can make great progress with their learning.
Centralised staff resources that enable teaching staff to utilise shared lesson plans and resources in line with our desire for “ready, steady, teach”. Support staff also access a range of standard format materials to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of daily work.
A supportive parent body, and a high-quality body of governors. Our Foundation Governors all work in higher education.
Superb ICT facilities and the free use of a laptop.
A laptop is provided for all teachers for the duration of their employment with us.
Our school has a long and proud history but is forward-looking and very well-equipped. Classrooms have state-of-the-art touchscreen technology to aid teaching and learning.
Our use of Microsoft resources greatly enhances shared planning and access to materials for our students.
As a Converter Academy, we continue to utilise national pay scales and pension schemes (the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and the Local Government Pension Scheme for Support Staff).
The pension schemes are both national schemes (the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and the Local Government Pension Scheme for support staff) and both schemes have an excellent reputation.
All staff are entitled to opt-out of the scheme should they so wish, although this is discouraged.
We look after our staff in a number of other and maybe less obvious ways.
Our staffing policies are “family-friendly” and our culture is to ensure that staff are welcomed and always supported whilst in our employment.
The canteen service is chef-led through our specialist catering company, CuciAa, with all food prepared freshly prepared on-site. Staff can even order an evening takeaway, should they so desire.
We take staff well-being very seriously and ensure that our policies and practices take this into account.
We invest in staff physical and mental health through a subscription to APL Health.
A free annual flu-jab is offered for staff.
We offer loans to allow staff to purchase Season Tickets for travel to school.
We do support colleagues travelling on public transport by offering an interest-free loan to cover the cost of their annual commute to work. This can be up to the value of £3,500 and is open to staff who have passed their probationary period. Repayments are then deducted over 12 months.
We prefer our staff to consider environmental means of travelling to school; cycling or car-sharing is becoming increasingly common in school.
We also offer a salary sacrifice Cycle Scheme.
We encourage our staff to be active and healthy. There is a cycle scheme which allows staff to purchase a bicycle and off-set the tax through a salary sacrifice scheme. A lockable staff cycle store and shower facilities support colleagues who cycle to school.
Induction into the school, a continuing professional development scheme and carefully considered succession planning all feature to provide the very best for our staff.
A full and bespoke induction programme will be in place when you join the school. This will include learning about our culture, policies and practices to enable you to make the best start to your employment with us.
No matter what stage of your career you are at, we will support you and develop your skills and abilities. There is an ongoing professional development programme with an individual CPD allowance for each member of staff. Courses include National Professional Qualifications (NPQML, NPQSL, NPQH and NPQEL) and a range of other recognised training courses for both support and teaching staff, including apprenticeship opportunities.
We also support our staff in pursuing further training courses with heavily-subsidised Masters programmes and higher qualifications.
The specific development will be dependent on your own needs and ambitions and will aim to help you to achieve your ambitions.
There is the opportunity to work with colleagues from a range of external partnerships.
We are a Leading Edge School, part of the only national network for high-performing schools, and this affords some excellent partnership working and access to resources.
We are a founding and partner school in the Challenge Partnership, which provides the chance to work with colleagues from across the country working in like-minded schools.
We work with a number of local secondary schools at Sixth Form level to provide wider choices for students and which facilitates co-educational teaching and learning.
The Hounslow Education Partnership is a highly effective group of local schools that work in collaboration in a number of ways, including a series of subject networks and theme-specific working groups.
There are a range of other benefits whilst you work with us including:
Staff sports sessions and a staff badminton club.
The Isleworthians Association (the former students’ network).
Our geographical location in West London allows for excellent transport links and access to some exciting local sites and easy access to London.
Travel to the West End is straightforward via the underground (Osterley on the Piccadilly Line is a 10-minute walk) and via the overground (Isleworth station is a 7-minute walk).
We are only 5-6 miles from the M3 or M4 and easy links to the M25.
Heathrow Airport is just a few stops away on the Piccadilly Line.
Working in a conservation area in Osterley, with both Osterley Park and Syon Park within walking distance.
