Safeguarding

What Safeguarding Means Here

At Isleworth & Syon, safeguarding means creating a secure, caring environment where every student is protected from harm, and where their wellbeing (physical, emotional, and mental), is considered a priority. Every member of staff, including trustees and volunteers, shares responsibility for keeping pupils safe.

Key Roles and Contacts

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Mr. P Shaw

  • Deputy DSLs: Miss C Atkin, Mrs L Clayton, Mr M Dargan, Mr J Doyle, Mr S McAlinden

  • Lead Trustee for Safeguarding: Martin Garthwaite

  • Looked After Children Lead: Mrs L Clayton

  • How to contact the Safeguarding Team: 020 8568 5791; safeguarding@isleworthsyon.org

What the Policy Covers

  • The school follows all statutory guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education) and complies with local multi-agency procedures in Hounslow.

  • It applies to all staff, volunteers, trustees and anyone working on behalf of the school, including during off-site activities and extended school provision.

  • The policy includes procedures for safer recruitment and DBS checks, handling allegations against staff, recognising specific safeguarding concerns, and promoting preventative education.

Principles the School Upholds

  • Keeping the welfare of students foremost: decisions and actions are driven by what is best for the child.

  • Early intervention: identifying needs or risks early, so support can be given before problems escalate.

  • Transparency and clear reporting: staff know how and when to raise concerns, and students/parents/carers know how to do that too.

  • Student support: ensuring pupils who are vulnerable (for any reason) are supported appropriately.

If You Have Concerns

  • If you believe a child is at risk of harm, email the school’s safeguarding address: safeguarding@isleworthsyon.org.

  • In emergencies, contact the appropriate authorities (e.g. social services or police).
