'Talking Teens' Parent/Carer Workshop
During October, we held our first-ever ‘Talking Teens’ workshops for parents/carers of Years 8 and 9. Across four weekly sessions, trained staff members offered support and guidance for parents/carers who may be encountering challenges with their children as they reach their teenage years. Modelled after sessions by The Centre of Emotional Health, this group was a fantastic way to share helpful strategies and provide a safe space for discussion. Topics included:
- Responding to difficult feelings
- Understanding teenage development
- Different parenting styles
- Offering praise and criticism to your child
- Talking and listening effectively
- Handling difficult issues and managing conflict
- Setting rules and boundaries
- Problem-solving.

The sessions were very well attended, and parent/carer feedback was very positive, as you can read below. Thank you to those who attended – this was a great example of school working in partnership with families to help students’ development.
- "Thank you for organising the sessions. It has been really wonderful to understand about teenage parenting."
- "[I have learned] how to handle situations especially sanctions, feelings and communication."
- "Safe environment to share with like-minded peers. Informative."
- "Good positive ideas to implement in my home environment. The whole course was very useful and insightful."
