Men's Mental Health Talk

Men's Health Talk 2026

National Men’s Health Week (15-21 June) was an important part of this month in school. The purpose of the week was to raise awareness about health challenges faced by men – and promote strategies for better physical and mental well-being.

As a boys’ school for Years 7-11, men’s health is regularly discussed across our curriculum, Study Support sessions and assemblies. The national week was a chance to bring all that together and provoke some important discussions with our boys. These frank conversations were a feature of the week, with students encouraged to be transparent and honest.

We were thrilled to welcome in a charity called Mind of the Student (MOTS) to talk to Years 7-10. During the talk, MOTS provided self-help tools and coping techniques to manage difficult emotions. Throughout the interactive sessions, students were encouraged to communicate about mental well-being through group discussions that broke down stigmas (pictured above). The session also:

  • Helped the boys to recognise the physical response to issues such as anxiety, and discussed practical solutions through guided breathing activities
  • Discussed the impact of social media and had students reflect on their own self-perceptions and how social media can distort this
  • Spoke about depression and the importance of behavioural activation to combat

The hour-long session was clearly very impactful and thought-provoking for our students. Below you can see some feedback from the boys:

  • "I liked how the event was interactive and inclusive, allowing people to share opinions and relate."
  • "The event made me notice and learn more about mental health."
  • "The event was very useful and educational."
  • "It was very helpful."
  • "This was a great event to talk about mental health of teenagers during exam season."
