Futures Festival at Pinewood Studios
Pinewood Studios
This trip gave me deeper insight on the film industry and helped me conceptualise my post-18 options.- student attendee
At the end of January, we took Year 12 film students to the annual Futures Festival at the world-famous Pinewood Studios. This was a unique opportunity for students to network with industry professionals, take part in workshops and attend panels. The aim of the event is to inspire, engage and encourage all attendees to consider careers in the screen industry.
More than 50 companies from across the film industry supported the event, including The Walt Disney Studios, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and MBS. You can see pictured above students meeting Chewbacca from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise as well as being ‘captured’ by stormtroopers from the same series of films. Students also:
- Attended fascinating speaker sessions hosted by Radio 1’s Ali Plumb, featuring subjects like Costume Design, Production, Art Department, Sound, Film Journalism and Acting
- Enjoyed a spectacular live stunt demonstration to see the craft behind major action sequences
- Heard from Pinewood Post Production about how dialogue, sound effects and music are layered to create atmosphere and impact
- Got hands-on with technical equipment including Sony cameras, plus experienced live set installations.
Students loved this magical day which really helped them to understand the many processes that go into creating a film. It also helped them consider the many different pathways into the industry once they leave school. Students were full of enthusiasm on the journey home!
