'Design and Technology in Action' Trip
On Tuesday, we took a group of Year 13 engineers to the Emmanuel Centre, London for a very special enrichment opportunity. They attended an exciting day of sessions, lectures and interactive activities organised by Education in Action. This particular session was called 'Design and Technology in Action', a fascinating series of sessions focused on creativity and innovation. Students delved into the future of design, listening to leading designers, engineers and industry experts. It was not just a lecture, though - there were live demonstrations, interactive discussions and even audience participation!
The day was very varied, with the following interesting topics explored:
- 'Handmade: A Scientist's Search for Meaning Through Making'
- 'Prints Charming: How 3D Printing Could Be Medicine’s Fairy Godmother'
- 'Build The Future: Become the Engineer with a Town Planning Showdown!'
- 'Is car design peak human endeavour?'
- 'The Art of Modelmaking'
Learn more about these individual sessions via Education in Action's website.
It is fair to say that students loved the day - it was brilliant to dig deeper into their A level specification and bring learning to life! One student commented, "[I developed a] deep understanding of different career paths" while another complimented that the event had opened their eyes to the "different types of engineering" that they could explore once they leave school. Well done to the students for being fantastic ambassadors for our school, including excellent participation in the day!
