Apprenticeship Talk and Masterclass

We were delighted to welcome Laurisa Zuba from AIM London into school to deliver a full day of Apprenticeships information, guidance, and skills development for Years 10, 12, and 13. This was an important visit to support our statutory duties around careers education, as well as making sure students receive high‑quality, up‑to‑date insight into apprenticeship pathways and application processes.

Laurisa delivered two core sessions throughout the day: the Apprenticeship Awareness Assembly and the Application Masterclass workshop.

Apprenticeship Awareness Assembly

This session was delivered for Year 10 and gave students a comprehensive introduction to apprenticeships, covering:

  • What apprenticeships are and how they work
  • Their benefits, including earning while learning
  • Where to find vacancies
  • The different apprenticeship levels, sectors, and job roles available.

Laurisa also highlighted career starter standards, foundation apprenticeships, and higher and degree apprenticeships, helping students understand the full range of routes open to them.

Application Masterclass

This workshop for Years 12 and 13 offered students a practical, step‑by‑step guide to searching and applying for apprenticeship vacancies. It included:

  • A recap of apprenticeship essentials
  • Demonstrations of key apprenticeship vacancy websites such as:
    • Find an Apprenticeship
    • Higherin (formerly Rate My Apprenticeship)
    • Not Going to Uni
    • UCAS Apprenticeship Hub
    • Amazing Apprenticeships – Higher & Degree Vacancy Listing
    • LinkedIn
  • Time for students to explore live vacancies (where IT access allowed)
  • An overview of the application timeline
  • Application top‑tips and signposting to employability support resources

This flexible workshop was tailored to our students’ needs and helped demystify the application journey as well as giving them quick to action tips for their applications.

Laurisa’s sessions were extremely well received, with students gaining both inspiration and practical skills to support their next steps. We extend our thanks to AIM London for their continued support. Students who would like further information on apprenticeships are encouraged to speak to Mr Adams, our Careers Leader.
