Year 11 students were in a celebratory mood on Thursday morning as they picked up their GCSE results. This year group have had a truncated education due to the Covid pandemic, but the school has worked hard to ensure that they could achieve their best. These students have thrived in a learning environment designed to help them be the best that they can be. Most Year 11 students are continuing at the school’s Sixth Form, where they will receive even more individualised support to help them select their future pathway.

One of our top performers was Samuel Brace, with nine 9s and one 8. Over the last five years, he has been one of our top musicians, representing the school at many events and even starting a band outside of school with some classmates. We are equally proud of Joe Gilmour and James Skinner, who each earned eight 9s, one 8 and one 7. Both boys have been outstanding Isleworthians, exemplifying the outstanding opportunities which we encourage students to pursue. Joe was the lead in the 2021 school production, which will prepare him nicely for a potential post-university political career! James has represented the school on the sports field at national level, as well as earning a place at the European Gymnastics Championships. We are delighted that both pursue their passions at our successful Sixth Form. Isleworth & Syon is the best place to help them achieve their dreams of attending a top university.

Dalbir Gill earned ten top grades, including seven 9s, and is looking to study sciences and maths in our Sixth Form. He is already looking to future careers in astrophysics or aerospace engineering. In recent years, engineering has been a very popular career path for our boys. His classmate Nikolay Mykhaylyuk is also aspiring to be an engineer or similar; his 9s in biology and physics, along with other outstanding grades, will stand him in good stead. Suleiman Hassan is also looking to pursue engineering degrees at university and has decided to study A levels in maths, further maths and physics with us. Dexter Dobel and Ushran Hooghan are quite rightly also proud of their phenomenal 14 grade 9s between them!

One Year 11 student is already planning his application for Cambridge University – Mikaeel Shah earned seven 9s, one 8 and two 7s in his GCSEs. After entering the UK Maths Olympiad, and placing in the top 20 for the country, we are pleased that he will further his maths education at our Sixth Form. Oliver Hone, fresh from eight grades at 9-8, will be a great addition to our long-standing tradition of GCE science success when he starts his biology studies. He will also study economics and history and is currently planning to join the British Army after university.

Students in our Sixth Form will benefit from the expertise of our career specialists. Our targeted careers programme, led by our dedicated Careers Leader, will ensure they are given the tools to succeed. William Jones is not sure what the future holds, but his five 9s and four 8s have set him up brilliantly for his A levels with us. Others have a clear pathway in mind, like Karim Elhadary, who wants to use his language skills to pursue a possible career as a translator. He sat three languages – French, Italian and Spanish – and earned a grade 9 in all three! Studying with our Sixth Form will help him achieve his goals. With too many students to mention individually, we also want to highlight the large number of students who have enrolled on our outstanding vocational offer. Last week’s Year 13 results showed that these courses go from strength to strength in school.

Simon Fisher and Jo Higginbottom, the school’s new Co-Headteachers, said, “These results clearly demonstrate that the future is bright at Isleworth & Syon School. We know that these Isleworthians are well on the way to becoming distinguished alumni – shining examples of the school’s values. With fantastic levels of Sixth Form enrolment, it is clear that our boys acknowledge our long-standing tradition of exceptional education and outstanding opportunities. Congratulations to all students who have collected results today – we wish you well and will do everything we can to support you with your next steps.”
