Over the last twelve months, we have all had different experiences with the COVID-19 pandemic. Feelings of loneliness and a longing for connection have both been very common reactions. One of our Sixth Form students, Jason Zingapan, wanted to channel these feelings in a very specific way through the social media platform TikTok.

It began in January with a comment on a viral video which gained a lot of attention. Jason’s message of hope was inspiring to many people, achieving 26,400 ‘likes’. What became quickly apparent, though, was that a lot of students across the world were losing hope as they struggled with learning at home.

Jason wanted to do something about it, so he teamed up with the creator of the original video to put together a positive video of support. They got ideas from many people from all around the globe; a common theme was the idea of focusing on the joy in life to get us through these difficult times. The uplifting final video, focusing on the theme of connection, has so far garnered nearly 34,000 ‘likes’.

We would like to say well done to Jason for his work on the project, and how well he was able to juggle his continued studies at home. This project showcases exactly what we want an Isleworthian to be – a thoughtful, mature, caring young citizen of the world who wants to make a difference.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been collating resources to help parents/carers and young people with their wellbeing. You can access them here.
