A huge congratulations to our Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 badminton teams, who both emerged triumphant in National Schools borough tournaments last month. These resounding victories marked the twelfth year in a row that these teams have been crowned the best in Hounslow borough. What an achievement for Miss George (coach) and the school – a testament to the hours spent in after-school training sessions honing their skills.
The Key Stage 4 tournament took place first, on Thursday 14 November at the local Osterley Sports Centre. All borough schools were involved, and we sent three teams of four students. The format was a simple round-robin group followed by a knockout. Our winning team – pictured above – progressed with ease to face the International School of London in the final. Their victory was emphatic, winning by 5 games to 0. A fantastic team effort!
A week later, it was the turn of our Key Stage 3 students, and this time we sent a staggering six teams, showcasing the level of talent across Years 7-9. We were delighted that the semi-finals were made up entirely of Isleworth & Syon teams, guaranteeing victory even at that stage. Our top two teams – the ‘A’ and ‘B’ strings faced off in the final, a very close-run match. The resounding way in which we swept aside the competition really shows the level of badminton provision in the school at the moment.
The next challenge? The West London finals, taking place in February. Miss George is determined to push the boys harder than ever before, carrying on their training to ensure that they are fully prepared. Based on this evidence, you would not bet against them.
