Congratulations to our first XV rugby team, who secured their first title of the season with a great victory in the Middlesex U18 Plate final. They beat Wetherby Senior School 15-7 in a close-run game which took place at Grasshoppers RFC. The team was led expertly by Archie Horton, with Ben Nyanzi scoring two tries and Morgan Lawrence adding the other.
Coach Mr Mullins was understandably delighted with the boys’ performance, saying afterwards: “This has been a two-year project for the students, with the disappointment of a narrow semi-final loss 12 months ago driving them on. We have established a style of play, and the players have been motivated to improve throughout the season. The results have been impressive, and we have done something that no Isleworth & Syon 1st XV has achieved since 2003.
“This team now has a 90% win rate this season which is an incredible feat, losing only once, in the area quarter-final of the National Vase. This is a testament to the attitude of the group, and we hope that this will not only continue at senior level but filter down to the junior age groups as well.”
A huge well done to the students for their hard work in training, which has certainly reaped the rewards. We can’t wait to see where this group go next!
