UPDATE, 2 JULY:
We were thrilled to learn that Malek’s won another one – two in as many months! This time, it was the Swim England National Inter-regional Championship U16 in Blackpool! Malek’s team are the first London team to win a water polo national championship in 19 years – an outstanding achievement.
ORIGINAL STORY:
We were delighted to receive notice that Malek Eldesouky (9F) was part of the team which won the u17 section of the Swim England Water Polo National Age Group Championships. His team, West London Penguin, beat City of Manchester in a close-run final on Monday 27 May. Manchester were the defending champions, but Malek’s team fought extraordinarily hard, coming from behind several times to win 9-8. In the photo above you can see Malek in the centre holding the shield (fourth-left, bottom row), with gold medal around his neck. Read more about the match here.
This is a remarkable achievement for Malek – as a 14-year-old in an under-17 team, many of his team-mates are a few years older than him. However, his sheer dedication and commitment in training has led him to this success, and we are very proud of what he has done. The next step for Malek is to continue with this progress so that he can maximise his potential in the pool – clearly he has a bright future ahead of him, and we can’t wait to see what comes next!
Our thanks to Malek’s father for letting us know about this fantastic news. If your child has had a success outside of school, we’d love to hear from you through the usual channels!
