It has been another busy month in the P.E. department – find out more below!
Rugby 7s
Following the conclusion of the 15-a-side rugby season last month, attention now turns to Rugby 7s, the 7-a-side version of the sport. The season began with a series of fixtures at Gunnersbury, as well as a number of tournaments at Ibstock Place and Orleans Park. The department runs teams at each age group, and it promises to be a busy season with the Middlesex 7s, National 7s and London Youth Games 7s tournaments to come. Stay tuned to the @IsleworthSyonPE Twitter feed for updates throughout the season.
Cricket
Mr Potter was delighted that our U13 boys (Year 8) have progressed to the county finals at Finchley School on Wednesday 22 March. They are hoping to continue their rich vein of form which saw them crowned borough champions last season. The boys continue to train hard, putting in the hours both before and after school. We wish the team well as their season continues.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) continues to go from strength to strength at Isleworth & Syon – we remain the only local school to offer the gold award. During February, the 2017 award launched with strong uptake for both bronze and silver awards. A stunning 75 students from Year 9 signed up for bronze award, and training has begun ahead of their expedition during Wider Learning Week in July. Meanwhile, 24 students have so far put their names forward for the silver award, with a good number having previously taken their bronze. Last year’s cohort of students have been invited to a Presentation Evening on Tuesday 14 March, where they will collect certificates in recognition of their achievement.
Curriculum
Our Year 10 BTEC Sport students took their onscreen test on Friday 10 February, after much preparation and revision. On the morning of the examination, Mr Potter set up a ‘pathway to success’ (see image above) with a series of hints and tips for boys to maximise their potential. Results for the test will come out soon – well done to the boys for their hard work.
Extra-Curricular
The extra-curricular provision continues to go from strength to strength, with large uptake across the age ranges. It’s been particularly encouraging to see our Sixth Form students arranging football training sessions after school on Fridays. We really do believe that these sort of activities enrich the students physical and mental well-being, and it’s been great to see the boys getting stuck in. At the end of March is the annual Staff v Year 13 Leavers football match – the Leavers have won for two years on the spin, but will this year buck the trend? Look out for a full report at the end of term.
