These 7.30am cricket sessions typify students’ commitment to extra-curricular sport!

Welcome to the Sports Report, a new monthly feature which summarises what’s been going on in Isleworth & Syon sport during the last month.

It’s been an excellent month for school sportsmen, with several successes across a number of sports! The P.E. department has been working extremely hard with the boys to maximise potential and achievement, and it certainly seems to be paying dividends!

Cross-Country

Several of our boys progressed to the county cross-country championships, which took place on Friday 27 January at Harrow School. The boys represented Hounslow at the event and performed extremely well. Oliver Marti (8B) competed in the Year 9 race and finished in a top 30 position, an absolutely stunning achievement from one so young. It was also a delight to see the Kolli brothers – Rayan (7C) and Djim (9F) – race together and do the school proud. Our cross-country continues to go from strength-to-strength, and we look forward to seeing continued improvements as we move into the spring.

Indoor Athletics

On Monday 30 January, a group of students took part in the borough indoor athletics competition over at Osterley Sports Centre. The P.E. staff were very impressed with both our Year 7 and Year 8 groups. The Year 7 boys placed in the top 5 for their age bracket, while the Year 8s finished second in Hounslow. Mr Mullins has done great work with the boys during training, and these results continue to cement athletics as a sport of success within the school.

Rugby

The rugby season concluded this month; a full list of the year’s fixtures can be found here. There were notable performances across all the year groups. Most impressive was the sheer turnout from the boys over the course of the season – the commitment and tenacity on display from the boys was highly commendable, showing them to be a credit to the school. A huge amount of work goes towards putting on these fixtures, so it is great to see such winning performances. Well done to all the boys who played rugby this year!

Cricket

Our u13 side have qualified for the county stages of the 8-a-side indoor competition, meaning that we are once again borough champions for Hounslow. The county stage will be held on Wednesday 22 March at the Middlesex Indoor School, Finchley. Well done to the boys for their hard work!

Extra-Curricular Participation

Finally, a special mention must go to the department’s extra-curricular programme of activities. Mr Potter’s motto is “start the day as you mean to go on”, and morning sessions have run on three out of five days, each week. These sessions start at 7.30am and have been extremely well-attended – especially the Year 8 and 9 cricket on a Thursday morning. These sessions are engineered to help the boys’ physical, mental and social wellbeing, as well as improving their skills. The whole department has been delighted with the uptake, and hope that this continues in the coming months.
