Year 8 borough cricket 8-a-side champions!

Check out all the final sports team report from this year below.

Cricket

It has been an outstanding season of cricket, with the sport being cemented as a key strength within the school. At borough level, both Year 8 and Year 9 emerged as Hounslow borough champions at 11-a-side level, whilst our Year 7 and Year 10 teams finished as narrow runners-up. Mr Potter has worked extremely hard with the boys in training, and it is fantastic to see this paying dividends out on the field.

At 8-a-side level, we entered two sides into the McKinsey Cup. Our Year 10s were unfortunate to be knocked out in the first round, but still gave a good account of themselves. Our Year 8 team is filled with future stars in the making, with Mr Potter extremely enthusiastic about this cohort’s future. The boys won both the district (Hounslow) and county competitions, which means they qualified for the South East of England finals, scheduled to be held in Chelmsford, Essex. However, the day was rained off, and the winners were determined through a draw. Chance was not on the boys’ side, unfortunately – it is a shame that they were not able to test their mettle at this level this time. With a determined group of boys, though, we have little doubt that they will go from strength-to-strength next year.

During July, it was a pleasure to see our Year 9 cricket leaders partnering with Sport Impact to help run a borough primary cricket tournament locally, over two days. The boys were an absolute credit to themselves and the school – well done!

Athletics

As well as Josiah Wilson Kepple’s triple jump success (see latest newsletter for more), our athletes have outdone themselves this term. Year 9 boys finished as borough champions, an outstanding effort that was richly deserved. Our mixed Year 9 & 10 team finished runners-up in the borough super 8s, while the same team finished fourth in the South of England National Athletics Finals. Mr Mullins reports that the boys’ commitment in training is second-to-none, so we should expect even greater things from the group next year!

Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards

Our bronze group took part in their practice expedition during Wider Learning Week, and it was a great success. Our senior students taking Gold award are currently on their practice expedition at Helvellyn, and early reports from the mountains suggest that they are working brilliantly.
