This year, the school has launched a project commemorating our former students who fought in World War 1, on the 100-year anniversary of their death. You can view the entire roll of honour here.
Today, Thursday 4 June, we honour Arthur William Bailey, a Lieutenant in the Oxford and Bucks Regiment. Arthur’s family have been kind enough to share with us some documents relating to Arthur’s military service. These are embedded below; click an image to view it in a larger size with complete captions. Below, you can find Arthur’s attestation form, his service record, his extension of service, and his casualty record.
Below this gallery, you will also find two PDF documents. The first is the programme from a memorial service held at the Strand School on 1 June 1919. The second is an issue of the ‘Isleworthian’, dated ‘Summer Term 1915’. We believe that this document is a newsletter which was circulated to students of Isleworth County School (as it was then known) each term. It provides a fascinating insight into the turbulent nature of life during the war.
Many thanks to the Bailey family and Ann Green for sending through these documents. If you are a relative of one of the 81 former students that we will honour over the next three years, we would love to hear from you! Please contact the school via email, for the attention of the Communications Officer.
