The Isleworth & Syon Table Tennis Open crowned its winner today, as Michal Papior (9C) took the gold medal. Having won seven matches to get to the final, he beat Ishan Kapila O’Shea (7D) by two games to love (11-8, 11-6) in the final match. Michal was the overwhelming favourite for the match, having previously beaten a Year 11 student as well as P.E. teacher Mr Gibbons. However, he didn’t crumble under the pressure of the roaring crowd, demonstrating a wide array of shots on his way to victory. His opponent had no answer for Michal’s devastating forehand in particular.

The third/fourth place playoff was also a competitive affair, with Haleem Pall (8D) beating Samy Guettiche (11C). In spite of a three-year age gap, Haleem gained a well-deserved victory by two games to love.

The final marks the end of a competition that began in January with 185 participants from across the school. Well done to everyone who participated!
